Have you ever wondered what would happen if you crossed Twisted Metal from the PlayStation with Wing Commander: Privateer? Hard Truck Apocalypse: Rise of the Clans might just be that game. We got a look at this stand-alone expansion to Hard Truck Apocalypse at Buka's booth during E3 2006.

First off, Rise of Clans is a standalone expansion, gamers will not need the original to step behind the wheel, and the story continues where the original left off. You'll be placed in the remains of Manhattan, driving around the crumbled Statue of Liberty and the ruins of a once great city.

GGMania: What can you tell us about the storyline for the game?
Aleksey Tchetsnikh: The action takes place in a not-so-distant future, when the remains of the human race are recovering after a major catastrophe. The main character is a young man, who gets involved in a series of tragic events, which urge him to seek revenge. Little does he know of where his quest will lead him...

"Buka Entertainment and Targem Games did nearly everything perfect with this title: the cool setting that is not overused by other games in our time, a story that keeps you motivated, the easy-to-learn controls, gigantic levels, the numerous possibilities to trade, to drive and to fight, the easy but challenging weapon- and upgrade-system and smooth techniques. The only thing missing at this title is a multiplayer-mode".

Hard Truck Apocalypse is a vehicular action-RPG from Targem Games and Buka Entertainment. Although it might be a somewhat odd name, looking past that will reveal a very deep and fun to play game. I recently got my hands on a demo version of HTA, and despite a few flaws this could be a sleeper hit.
